Biocon Biologics leads with purpose and responsibility. We drive innovation that not only transforms healthcare, but also safeguards the environment.
Climate Strategy
Our climate strategy is guided by a decarbonization plan with the key pathways being a shift to renewable resources, operational efficiencies and effective emissions management.
At the heart of this strategy is our commitment to transitioning to renewable energy sources, including solar and wind power, to reduce our dependence on fossil fuels and reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Additionally, we are pursuing fuel transition strategies, including the utilization of alternative energy sources, to significantly reduce our carbon emissions.
Internal GHG reduction targets focus on managing our carbon emissions and enhancing energy efficiency, while building our resilience to climate change risks.
The CDMA (Clinical Development & Medical Affairs) team sustainability mandate follows the Carbon Reduction Guidelines of the United Kingdom (UK) – National Institute for Healthcare and Research (NIHR). These guidelines outline strategies to reduce carbon emissions in clinical research phases.
In the 2023 Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) reports, Biocon Biologics (and Biocon) received an “A” rating for “supplier engagement”, improved its rating to “B” from “C” for “climate change” and received a “C” for “water security”.

Waste Management
We are focused on reducing waste generation while prioritizing reuse and recycling across all operations. By collaborating with our suppliers, we ensure the responsible disposal of both hazardous and non-hazardous waste. Additionally, we are actively supporting local waste management initiatives and partnering with stakeholders to promote the principles of a circular economy.
Biocon Biologics complies with the newly amended ‘Plastic Waste Management Rules’ of the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), including Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR).
Water Management
Biocon Biologics’ comprehensive water management strategy emphasizes conservation, responsible usage, and recovery, ensuring the efficient use of water across all our operations. We continually innovate to reduce water intensity, deploying best-in-class practices to treat and reuse wastewater, preventing any discharge into local water bodies.
In addition to recycling, we optimize freshwater consumption at our manufacturing facilities, implement rainwater harvesting systems, and support community-driven catchment initiatives to replenish aquifers. We are also investing in cutting-edge wastewater treatment technologies, such as the Scaleban® system at our Malaysia facility, which uses a patented process to recycle wastewater for reverse osmosis systems, significantly reducing our reliance on freshwater.
EHS Certifications
Our robust environmental management systems enable us to identify and address potential environmental risks and continuously improve our performance. We have an overarching Environment, Occupational Health, Safety, Sustainability (EHSS) policy, which drives our sustainability strategy. The policy is applicable to the entire Biocon Group and to external stakeholders. Translating the policy into practice is the responsibility of the EHS head at Biocon Biologics, who is supported by a dedicated team of EHS specialists.
All our manufacturing sites are certified for the Environmental Management System, under ISO 14001:2015. We also have a system of internal and external audits focused on environmental parameters.
